The application procedure you need to follow depends on a number of factors: Are you a first year student or are you applying for a master's degree? Do you have a domestic or a foreign university degree? Are you a German or EU citizen, or are you coming to us from abroad? You will find a first orientation on this page.
Application for a bachelor’s degree or teacher training program
The application process for international applicants for bachelor programs and teacher training programs is coordinated by the international office. All information can be found here .
Application for a master’s degree

Application procedure and schedule
- 31st May: application must be submitted in full and in the prescribed manner at 31st May the latest
- Until the end of June: applications are checked for completion
- By mid-July the admission process begins: evaluation of subject-specific requirements, admission points are awarded according to the faculty’s admission regulations
- Approx. end of July: notification of decision via AlmaWeb
In the course of the online application, you will be asked to upload the required documents. Simple (uncertified) scans of your documents are sufficient for the application process.
However, if you receive an offer of a place at our university, we will require certified copies for your enrollment. You will be asked to submit the corresponding certified documents with the notification of the study place offer. Only if the documents submitted in the course of the application match the certified documents, enrollment can then take place.

M.Sc. Neuroscience and Behavioural Biology
1. First professionally qualifying university degree in Biology or an equivalent subject that fulfills the admission requirements listed in point 2; if the degree has not yet been obtained, proof must be provided that the degree can be obtained by the start of the Master's degree program
2. Knowledge in at least six of the following areas with a total of at least 60 credit points:
- General Zoology
- Behavioural Ecology
- Zoological Systematics
- Physiology
- Microbiology
- Genetics
- Neurobiology

- Taken modules in the B.Sc. & if your Bachelor thesis is written in the field of Neuroscience or Behavioural Biology
- Letter of Motivation
- Services in student self-administration

With the application for the winter semester 2024/25, there will no longer be an aptitude assessment test. The subject-specific admission requirements will be checked in the admission test. This is not an on-site examination, but an examination of the documents submitted regarding the admission requirements in accordance with the applicable study regulations (see admission requirements).
