As part of my doctoral thesis, I am a member of the Leibniz ScienceCampus "Smoke and Bioaerosols in Climate Change." The ScienceCampus investigates the links between wildfires and climate change. Extreme weather events, such as droughts intensified by climate change, increase the risk of wildfires. These fires result in complex interactions between the atmosphere and the biosphere, while the release of smoke particles and gases affects air quality, the Earth's radiation balance, and vegetation patterns in affected regions.

Within this project, in collaboration with the German Biomass Research Center (DBFZ), I am studying the combustion behavior of foliage from different tree species and the resulting particle and gas emissions. To identify the causes of observed differences, I focus on the tissue characteristics of the leaves, their chemical composition, and bulk density.
