Im Zentrum meines Forschungsinteresses steht die Frage, welche kognitiven und kommunikativen Fähigkeiten Menschen mit anderen Primaten teilen und welche einzigartig menschlich sind. Ich kombiniere einen art- und kulturvergleichenden Ansatz und nutze Beobachtungs- und nicht-invasive Experimentalmethoden, um verschiedene Menschenaffenarten (Orang-Utans, Gibbons, Schimpansen) einschließlich des Menschen in verschiedenen kulturellen Kontexten zu erforschen.

Meine Forschungsgebiete sind:

  • multimodale Kommunikation durch Gestik und Mimik und die zugrundeliegenden sozial-kognitiven Fähigkeiten (Intentionalität, Flexibilität)
  • Emotionsausdruck und -verarbeitung
  • prosoziales Verhalten in Form (Teilens von Ressourcen und Hilfeverhalten)
  • psychologische Mechanismen der Mensch-Tier-Beziehung
