Profile
Abstract
Since fall 2017 I am working as an independent group leader within the framework of my DFG grant on the vinegar fly Drosophila, interrupted by a parental leave (2019/20). In the Genetics department I am voluntarily giving individual lectures and course blocks, and supervise Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD theses. Before, I was independent ZIF Marie-Curie Fellow at Konstanz University, again interrupted by one year parental leave (2014/15).
I got introduced to the topic 'Learning and memory' in Drosophila during my postdoc in the USA (UMASS Med School, Massachusetts) and England (Oxford University) in the lab of Scott Waddell. Before, I finished my undergraduate studies and my PhD at the Philipps University (Marburg, Germany), working on the development of the antennal lobe in the hawk moth Manduca sexta (Schachtner lab). Beyond that, I've attended programs for further education in the USA and Japan, and spent one year at Edinburgh University (Scotland) as Visiting Student.

I am using the vinegar fly Drosophila melanogaster to study 1. the mechanisms of caloric memory formation and 2. the impact of voluntary passive movement on self perception and reproductive fitness.
We employ a mix of anatomical methods and 3D reconstruction, various behavioural assays and functional imaging.
